The Virtual GloveBox
L. Van Warren
Description
Using off-the-shelf technologies from Sony and Virtex, the virtual
glove-box has multiple uses for VR simulation applications. By tying together
the essentials of eye hand coordination, and providing real time force feedback,
the user's input bandwidth is increased approximately 44 fold. Imagine getting
44 times more work done per day!. Initial applications include proteomics,
biological system exploration, virtual dissection, virtual operations (whoops
you shouldn't have cut that!), protein electrostatic interaction and virtual
clay. Not only is input bandwidth increased dramatically but kinetic understanding
and learning are increased due to tactile feedback. More of the user's brain
participates in mechanical understanding.
